1. Motivation
In households and workplaces, recycling is often well-organized, but in public spaces like parks or plazas, people tend to neglect proper recycling. As a result, many recyclable materials are discarded without being sorted. This invention aims to address this issue by creating a mobile recycling bin that moves toward people in public areas, making recycling easier and contributing to environmental protection.
2. Description
a. Summary
This recycling bin sorts recyclables like paper, plastic, cans, and glass based on their weight. It is equipped with wheels and controlled by Arduino to move forward and backward. A sensor near the lid allows it to open automatically when a hand approaches, adding convenience.
b. Principle and Originality
The bin uses three compartments separated by dividers with springs of different sizes and strengths to sort recyclables by weight. Lighter materials like paper go to the top compartment, slightly heavier plastics to the middle, heavier cans to the third, and the heaviest glass items to the bottom. Springs compress in proportion to the applied weight, and thicker springs exert more force. Additionally, the Arduino program enables the bin to follow a set path and stop when people approach. The lid opens automatically when a hand is detected near it, making recycling more user-friendly.
3. Results (Expected Benefits)
This mobile recycling bin can make recycling in public spaces more accessible by approaching people, encouraging proper sorting of recyclables. This contributes to environmental preservation and supports a healthier planet.
