Eco-friendly Mask Waste Bin with Strap Cutter

Background

When I first saw this photo, shown to me by my dad, I felt really sad. We wear masks to protect ourselves from the Covid-19, but I learnt that these masks can cause suffering to wildlife.
Since then, our family has tried to cut the mask strap with scissors before disposing of masks. However, doing this every single day hasn't been easy, and there have been times when we ended up just throwing them away without cutting the strap.
Additionally, as we discarded masks one at a time, our trash bin would quickly fill up. We discovered that compacting them tightly could save space in the bin. While there are many storage boxes available for keeping masks before use, there are no disposal bins designed specifically with environmental considerations in mind. That's why I decided to create this invention.
Purpose of the Invention
- The goal is to provide a waste mask disposal bin that integrates the processes of cutting the mask straps and collecting the cut masks in one streamlined step, allowing the cut masks to be neatly stored in the bin.
- The mask waste bin is designed so that the blade component can be attached and detached by the user, enabling easy replacement of the blade when necessary.
- It improves safety by keeping the user’s fingers away from the blade while also enhancing the efficiency of cutting mask straps.
Expected Effects
-
Increased Efficiency in Mask Disposal
Cutting straps and collecting waste masks simultaneously streamlines the disposal process, making it quicker and more efficient. -
Reduction in Waste Volume
Masks can be neatly stacked before disposal, reducing waste volume and minimizing the need for excessive trash bags, which helps protect the environment. -
Extended Usability
The blade can be easily replaced when it becomes dull or damaged, ensuring the collection box remains usable for an extended period. -
Enhanced Safety
The design prevents direct contact between users’ fingers and the blade component, eliminating the risk of injury during the strap-cutting or mask-retrieval process. -
Environmental Contribution
The collection box minimizes trash bag usage and organizes waste management, helping to conserve resources and reduce environmental pollution. -
Improved Practicality and Cost-Effectiveness
The collection box features user-friendly operation and easy maintenance, making it ideal for homes, public facilities, and medical institutions. It provides practical benefits while lowering management costs.
